Cinema of Transgression films scared the shit out of me the way GG ALLIN did later on. TAKING IT THERE. i loved it. Maybe not every minute of it but it made you feel bad in a good way. Submit To Me Now, They Eat Scum, Thrust In Me, Fingered-these were great, tough, horrible films. NIck Zedd walked into Cinders went we first opened and brought a bunch of VHS tapes. All the classics. We sold old copies of his Underground Film Bulletin which I would read on the toilet. They were a sweet look into what was happening in the deepest darkest corners of the NY film scene in the mid 80s . It was dark and funny and really serious about making films too-which was totally inspiring.
Blank City has great footage from that time period with Richard Kern, Nick Zedd, Lydia lunch, Thurston Moore, Jim Jarmusch, James Chance, Amos Poe, and Steve Buscemi all showing up and telling good stories. Its at IFC in NY a little longer, go see it or check it out when it comes to your town.
