Xander is our July Artist of the Month!

We first met Xander over a decade ago on the roof of the Mighty Robot space in Brooklyn when she was on tour showing films with some other artists as part of her “Movies with Live Soundtracks” series. The films were awesome and we got a bunch of her beautiful silkscreened and flocked zines to put in our then brand new space. She told us about the Dirt Palace, her home / studio / feminist / art / lair stationed in an old library building. It sounded dreamy and so we went up to see for ourselves. It surpassed even our imagination and thus we found ourselves at several of their epic New Years Eve parties, discovering kindred spirits in Xander and many other artists living in Providence, RI at the time. Xander is a maker and the human element of the hand is at work in everything she does which includes drawing, printmaking, puppets, films, plays, costumes, quilts, dioramas, mead, and gigantic installations. Peering in to her peephole, one will find a universe that is equal parts Victorian, occult, psychedelic, fairytale and feminist. We love it and we are excited to share with you this month!
