A Slideshow talk with artist Sonja Ahlers
Sonja is a pioneer of a new genre of print material that fuses collage, found images, original drawings, poetry and prose. Ahlers was influenced by the early 90s autobiographical comics and zines, the do-it-yourself movement, music of the Pacific Northwest and fine art. She’ll be presenting her new book The Selves, a 96-page color feminist scrapbook and collective biography published by Drawn and Quarterly. “Sonja Ahlers’ meditations on childhood, pop culture and feminine power are beyond entertaining. Entering the alternate reality she has created in The Selves, I found myself standing somewhere seductive, familiar and very funny.” —Kathleen Hanna
