AT & COLIN, E.M.T., ELVISH PRESLEY

Colin from USAISAMONSTER set this baby up and we were amped to celebrate our porch with a full-on potluck BBQ and some songs by some friends. Colin and his buddy A.T. started the night off and played their catchy as hell tunes, some of which were covers and unbeknownst to me a grateful dead song that rocked the house hard actually. EMT had hitchhiked to the show and actually got here EARLY! He wore doctor scrubs looking quite like a convincing scrub and singing real funny songs about taking showers with jelly beans. He asked people to let him know what their ailments were and always seemed to prescribe pills, and lots of them, handing them out like candy on Halloween, and working them into each semi-improvised song. A special incarnation of Elvish Presley featuring Barbara and Tom finished off the night. They dressed in rad kimonos that they just got in japan and tom played his homemade acoustic ukelele/metal distorted guitar with Barbara accompanying him on vocals and bells. They played the Elvish hits we've come to know and love and which solidified his rank as the fucking real "King" in a world of rock n roll imposters.

THE GOOD GOOD, GLEN OR GLENDA and JUSTIN CLIFFORD RHODY

Glen or Glenda played first and blew everyone away with their jazzy Dario Argento spun out soundtrack on acid skronk attack. They were on tour with Justin all the way from France and it was great to meet them, show them around Brooklyn a little and listen to Heart while doing jello shots. Plus later in the week they made us some tasty French olive bread! Justin is a rad kid that does a great record label called Friends and Relatives that put out sweet cassettes and silk-screened records of experimental poppy folk by the likes of jad fair, impractical cockpit, and little wings. he played his heartfelt songs with a back up band and did a good job making us feel like we were on a porch in a small town on a sunny afternoon.
The GOOD GOOD slayed us silly with masks, puppets, drums, melodicas, flutes, tambourines, keyboards and guitar, singing some of the most "homey sing-along kick up some dirt and clap" songs of the summer! Electric they rule the skool but if you got a chance to catch this rare "acoustic" experience you are a lucky mo fo.
I know I am.

JEFF LEWIS AND PREWAR YARDSALE

JEFFREY LEWIS and PREWAR YARDSALE came over to Cinders and took turns playing their acoustic punk anti-folk awesomeness on our porch. They fit perfectly in our installation and their lo-fi barebones approach was charming and genuine as we sat together on the Astroturf lawn listening and smiling a lot.
Mike sang quiet songs like "she used to be cool" and "bicycle free nyc" while playing guitar over Dina's bucket beats. Jeff played his fast-delivered imagery filled story-songs about seeing Will Oldham on the L train and whistling while walking through graveyards filled with corpses wanting to converse.
Jeff also broke out some of his "low budget movies," which are actually large hand-drawn comics! One recounted the history of communism and another talked about not looking punk anymore but still feeling punk and basically how we should all get along: skinheads, punks and hippies unite!
