Nathaniel Russell makes drawings, paintings, prints, sculptures, and music. After receiving an undergraduate degree in printmaking, he spent several years in the bay area making posters, record covers, and woodcuts. Russell’s work is regularly shown around the world in traditional galleries and informal spaces, usually surrounded by an expanding list of friends, collaborators, and like-minded folk. He returns to his second home of California frequently to work with friends old and new on projects as varied as murals, print workshops, and musical performances.
Words and writing have become a more integrated and essential part of his work, aiding in his search for revealing and exploring the mysteries and wonders of being alive here on planet earth. Russell regularly posts his observations on life, new drawings, ideas and photographs on his blog, Crooked Arm.
Russell is also founder and primary member of the musical group birds of America that is releasing an album of new recordings this summer under his own name, accompanied by a book of new drawings.
